The CNA course is divided up into 2 sections: classroom portion and clincal. The classroom section takes place in Simmons & Holliday classroom with tables, chairs, whiteboard, and any necessary video equipment. There are also skill practice rooms with beds, wheelchairs, and all supplies necessary to learn and practice the required skills for the Nursing Assistant Certified course. The avergage class size is ten (10) students with a ratio of ten (10) students to one (1) instructor.
The clincal portion of the training takes place at one of the local nursing facilites in town that we have an affiliation agreement with. Our primary is Puget Sound Healthcare, 4001 Capital Mall Drive SW, Olympia, WA 98502. Our secondary is Olympia Manor Care, 1811 22nd Ave NW, Olymnpia, WA 98502. The student/ instructor ratio for the clincal time is 10:1.
Students must be able to read, write, and speak and understand the English language. Students will be given an English comprehension test. If they do not pass, they may enroll in a literacy program and then take the CNA/ NAC course once the literacy program is completed.
Students will be graded on homework, tests, participation, and skills evaluations. The student must pass the course with an 80% or higher on all work. If a student does not pass, they have the option of taking the course again at the next scheduled time. The students will be told by the instructor if they are passing or not passing. The school will keep transcripts in a data base, of completed students. A student may call the office and request a copy of their grades, for a records retrival cost.
Students are expected to attend class every day. If there is an emergency and they cannot attend, they must let the instructor know as soon as possible and make up all work that is missed. If a student misses more than one (1) day, they will need to make that day up at the next scheduled course.
Students are expected to conduct themselves in a professional and respectful manor at all times. Cell phones are not allowed in class. There will be breaks and lunch times for use of cell phones. If a student refuses to silence their phone or follow the cell phone policy, they will be asked to leave, possibly without refund. They may be eligible to come back when they are willing to follow the cell phone policy.
The cost of the course is $650.00. The student will recieve their certificate of completion once all work is completed AND their account is paid in full.
Upon completion of the Certified Nursing Assistant course, students will recieve a Certificate of Completion for the CNA program, HIV/ AIDS Certificate, and BLS Healthcare Provider CPR/ AED/ 1st Aid cards. Thery are also eligible to take the Washington State Exam for Certified Nursing Assistants to become state certified.
